There are so many benefits to having a capsule wardrobe. If you ask me, everybody should have one! However, you’ve probably already got a load of clothes making your wardrobe overflow. If you have way too many clothes but never seem to have anything to wear, this guide could help you. Or if you simply want to be able to put a stylish look together every time you’re in the right place. Read on to learn more about creating your own capsule wardrobe:
Have a Clear Out
Before you can make a capsule wardrobe, you need to have a clear out. Now is not the time to be a hoarder! Get rid of anything you don’t wear. If you haven’t worn something in 6 months, be vigilant and get rid of it. You don’t need to throw it away; you can sell it, give it to charity or give it to a friend. At the very least, make sure you recycle it. Do your bit for the environment! I like to sell my old clothes on Poshmark. Sign up with code BXZGA to save $5
Decide on a Style
Decide on the kind of style you’d like for your capsule wardrobe so you can bear that in mind as you pick things up. How would you describe your current style or personality? If you are a bit edgy, yet classic you want to look for items that fit that description. You shouldn’t go out and buy one pink item you like, as you know it won’t go with the majority of things in your wardrobe. The idea is to be able to wear pretty much everything with everything.
Make a List of Things You Need
Now you’ve cleared out your wardrobe and defined the sort of style you’re looking for, you can make a list of things you need. Maybe you need jeans, trainers, or a coat you can throw over anything. Make sure that whatever you buy, you can wear it with at least 80% of the items you already have. You might love that furry rainbow colored jacket, but will you get your wear out of it? The answer, is probably not.
One of the most important things you need to do when creating your capsule wardrobe, is avoid trends. Avoid them like the plague! The only way you’re allowed to buy into a trend, is if you love it so much you just know you’ll wear it again and again. Trends come and go so quickly that it just isn’t worth including them in your capsule wardrobe. You want the majority of your items to have no give away as to when you bought them, so you can reuse them for as long as they are fit for purpose. Tunic dresses, camel coats, and jeans are all items you’ll wear more than once.
When You Have Everything You Need Stop Buying
Once you have everything you need, stop buying. This is why it’s so important you only ever buy things that you love. Then you’ll have a wardrobe full of things you love and you won’t feel any need to buy anything else anyway. The only time you can buy something else, is when you need to replace an item you already have. Create a rule where one item out means one item can go in.
Have fun creating your capsule wardrobe!
