Your 2013 in Review

modern wonderland michael angelo quote 2014 is right around the corner…

Over the next few days, I want to do everything I can to help you start the New Year right.
Often times, we begin preparing our New Years Resolutions. Many of us fail by February.

A few years ago, I started a new routine. Every month, I gave myself “resolutions”. A one month resolution is much easier to fulfill. Then at the end of the year, I would do a full year review.

I hope that these reviews will not only help you be successful in 2014, but help you live a life worth fully living. Many of these principles I have picked up from devotionals, business books, leadership training, etc.

Starting with Thanks:

I always begin my review with thanks. It is easy to become bombarded with the tasks that are ahead. I begin with thanks. I think back and write down the miracles and achievements of the past year. I thank God for the things He has blessed me with, and that I am healthy.

Remembering that you have a purpose:

The second thing I do is remind myself that I was created to have purpose + to have hope. (Jer 29:11) Sometimes, during hard years, it is easy to think of failures and not realize that every obstacle is an opportunity to grow your character.

Begin the Review:

To complete your situational analysis, quiet yourself before God and review the past year’s work.

something beautiful Questions worth asking yourself:
(I usually write the answers in a journal or on my computer)

Please note: You can apply these questions to your business, ministry, or individual life.

What’s working? What were my specific successes and achievements over the past year?

Ex:
Business: Partnership with Hotel Group is working
Ministry: Communications Team Social Media
Individual Life: My relationship with Parker
Then specify specific achievements or wins

What’s not working? What were my frustrations and disappointments?

Ex:
Business: Getting paid from certain venues
Ministry: Time management
Individual Life: Eating healthier
Then specify frustrations or disappointments for each one

Business strategy graphs and SWOT analysis Conduct a brief S.W.O.T. analysis.
Identify your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Strengths: I’m good at:
Weaknesses: These things hinder my business/performance/goals:
Opportunities: The biggest opportunities I’m sitting on right now appear to be:
Threats: The greatest threats facing me right now are:

What valuable insights can I gain from the successes and challenges of the past year?

I hope you take the time to sit down and review these questions. I not only think this will help your business, but your personal life as well.

What was one lesson you learned in 2013?
